No. 17 Clemson finished their season on the highest note that they could despite missing starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. They steamrolled Oklahoma, 40-6, despite being the underdogs in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Clemson jumped out to a 17-0 lead over Oklahoma in the first quarter, and they never looked back and didn’t allow a single score until Oklahoma scored a garbage time touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Tigers backup quarterback Cole Stoudt shined in his big day with 319 yards and three touchdown passes on 26-of-36 passing while adding a rushing touchdown. Wide receivers Artavis Scott and Mike Williams also stepped up big.
Scott led the Tigers in receiving with eight catches for 114 yards and a touchdown while Williams added nine receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight put on a performance that was a polar opposite of his triumphant Sugar Bowl game when Oklahoma upset a heavily favored Alabama team.
Knight threw for 103 yards and three interceptions on 17-of-37 passing. Running back Samaje Perine performed well though as he ran for 134 yards on 23 carries.
Running back Alex Ross scored the only touchdown of the game for Oklahoma with an 11-yard run.
