Pablo Zabaleta reckons Manchester City will win the Premier League this year…
Manchester City’s Argentine right-back Pablo Zabaleta has warned title rivals that the Sky Blues are hungry for Premier League success, reports the Sun.
City played brilliantly at the weekend during their 4-1 thrashing of United in the Manchester derby, reminding the rest of the league just how many brilliant attacking options they have at their disposal.
New boss Manuel Pellegrini was quietly coming under pressure at the Etihad, following a 3-2 loss to Cardiff City earlier in the season and a drab 0-0 draw with Stoke, but the derby result has injected some real positivity back into City fans.
“This result has helped the manager, his staff and all the new players,” said Zabaleta, who signed a four year contract extension in the summer.
“Winning like that gives you confidence. It has helped the team to play much better collectively than we have done.
“Playing the way we did, we have a big chance to fight for the title. Playing like that in such a big match shows this team has a great spirit,” continued the 28-year-old, who will hope to start for Argentina at next summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
Zabaleta has made 175 appearances for City since arriving from Espanyol in 2008. He’s won an FA Cup and a Premier League title, and will be desperate to add more silverware this season.
“We talk about mentality and focus on every game in the Premier League because we know how important it is,” he added.
“But we have to be ready to play every game the same way we did against United.”
