The Cleveland Browns lost offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan after one season, and he has since accepted the offensive coordinator job with the Atlanta Falcons.
John DeFilippo has been hired as the new Browns offensive coordinator after serving as the quarterbacks assistant coach for the Oakland Raiders.
He and head coach Mike Pettine refuse to name a starting quarterback, and DeFilippo even implied that the Browns may draft another quarterback despite taking Johnny Manziel in the first round.
“We’re not sure if our starting quarterback’s in the building right now or not,” the Browns offensive coordinator said to NFL.com.
Brian Hoyer will be a free agent this upcoming offseason, and Manziel did nothing to assure the Browns coaching staff that he is the franchise quarterback going forward.
DeFilippo is expected to meet with Hoyer this week, so there is a possibility that he may be re-signed. The Browns have gone through many starting quarterbacks who have been unsuccessful, so DeFilippo will look to help Pettine break this negative trend.
