After it was reported he would return, Cameron left for the Miami Dolphins. The Browns will turn to Rob Housler after signing him to a one-year contract.
Housler began his career with the Arizona Cardinals and spent his first four seasons there after being selected in the third round of the 2011 draft.
The Browns will be getting a solid pass catcher in Housler, who set a career high for receptions with 45 in 2012, and he reached 454 receiving yards in 2013.
Housler has only caught one touchdown pass in his four-year career, but he was part of a Cardinals offense that was never able to be consistent due to poor quarterback play and injuries to Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton last season.
The 27-year-old tight end will not be guaranteed to make the Browns’ roster since they are rumored to be interested in drafting a tight end, such as Minnesota’s Maxx Williams.
Nevertheless, he is by far the best pass catcher of the Browns’ tight ends, as Gary Barnidge only offers value as a blocker.
