Hartline was recently released by the Miami Dolphins, who cleared up salary cap space to sign defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh to a $115 million contract.
The Browns signed Hartline to a two-year, $6 million contract and filled a hole at wide receiver. They have struggled to find a consistent passing game since Josh Gordon has been unable to stay out of trouble, despite his tremendous talent on the field.
Hartline has shown potential as a possession receiver as he eclipsed 70 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards twice with the Dolphins.
However, it will be hard for him to make the Browns forget about Gordon since his speed is limited, and quarterback Brian Hoyer has departed for the Houston Texans.
The Browns will either have to lean on Josh McCown or Johnny Manziel to throw Hartline the ball unless they have another plan up their sleeves.
