McCown had previously signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before being cut after one disappointing season. The 35-year-old was unable to repeat his success as a backup for the Chicago Bears.
Brian Hoyer is entering free agency, and there is no guarantee that the Browns will re-sign him. Johnny Manziel has entered rehab after an abysmal rookie season, so McCown will have every opportunity to win the starting job.
This keeps the quarterback carousel alive in Cleveland though, and it has lasted for over 15 years now.
