After months of speculation, it looks like the final decision on whether Johnny Manziel will start for the Browns in his rookie season will be announced this coming week.
For the longest time, Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine has been very loose with the exact date that he would announce the team’s starting QB. The battle between incumbent Brian Hoyer and 1st-round draft pick and former Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manziel has been one of the most closely watched in years.
However, after weeks of repeated questioning, Pettine has stated that he intends to officially announce the starting QB on Tuesday.
”Something unforeseen could come up, but we’re hopeful because I do want to see if I can cut the quarterback questions down by about 90 percent after next week,” Pettine told reporters. ”The chemistry, the continuity, it’s important to establish that.”
Hoyer is slated to start Monday’s game against Washington, but Manziel will see his first snaps with the first-team offense in the game as well.
