After months of waiting, Johnny Manziel aka “Johnny Football” made his much anticipated debut for the Cleveland Browns. The immediate results were very appealing.
The Detroit Lions beat the Cleveland Browns in the debut game for No. 22 overall draft pick, Johnny Manziel.
Browns QB Brian Hoyer started the game for the Browns and went 6-of-14 passing for 92 yards. In the 2nd quarter, Johnny Manziel made his debut, taking over at QB with the second team offense and went 7-of-11 passing for 63 yards, adding six carries for a team-leading 27 yards on the ground. He added an impressive 16-yard scramble on the ground that had even the Detroit fans amazed.
Browns WR Josh Gordon was also in the game despite his impending suspension, but Pro Bowl TE Jordan Cameron – who is expected to carry a lot of the receiving load – was out with an injured shoulder.
The Lions performed well with backup QB Kellen Moore, who went 11-for-13 with 121 yards and the game’s only TD – a 21-yard strike to Corey Fuller with 1:05 left in the game to give the Lions the win. Calvin Johnson did not play.
After the game, it was made official that Johnny Manziel would start the 2nd preseason game against Washington on Monday, August 18th.
