The Stanford Cardinal will face UC Davis at home in their 2014 season opener as they look to begin avenging a Rose Bowl loss to Michigan State.
No. 11 Stanford is coming off a heartbreaking Rose Bowl loss to Michigan State, and they will look to recover in their season opener at home against UC Davis.
The Aggies finished 5-7 last season, and they will face a tall task in taking on Stanford’s defense, which returns seven starters. However, they upset Stanford in their last meeting in 2005 after the Cardinal blew a 17-0 lead to lose 20-17.
Quarterback Kevin Hogan will return for his senior season, and his 2013 season was rough as he threw 10 interceptions and looked shaky in the Rose Bowl. He will have both starting wide receivers returning though.
Ty Montgomery emerged as one of the premier deep threats in college football last season and finished with 58 receptions, 937 yards and 10 touchdowns. Devon Cajuste will return opposite Montgomery.
The offensive line will need to reload though as left tackle Andrus Peat will be the only starter returning. The defense will return seven starters, but it will need to adjust to life without linebackers Shayne Skov and Trent Murphy and safety Ed Reynolds.
