The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will face Rice at home in their season opener. Quarterback Everett Golson will resume as the starter after sitting out last season.
No. 17 Notre Dame will play in their 2014 season opener against Rice at home, and they are favored to win by 22 points. This game will feature the return of quarterback Everett Golson, who was suspended last season for academic dishonesty.
Golson had led the Fighting Irish to the BCS championship game in the 2012 season, and he will seek to put his team back in the conversation.
This will be difficult to achieve though since only four starters are returning on offense, and only five return on defense.
The offense has failed to average more than 30 points in a game since 2009, so the Irish will look to get the ball rolling on offense.
The Owls will return cornerback Bryan Callahan, who notched six interceptions as a freshman last season. This led all players in Conference USA. They will have a new starting quarterback in Driphus Jackson, who has made one career start so far.
He will look to take advantage of a depleted Notre Dame receiving corps, which will be without DaVaris Daniels, who was suspended for academic cheating. Leading receiver T.J. Jones was lost to the NFL.
