The Arizona State Sun Devils will open their 2014 season against another FCS team in Weber State, and they are favored to win by 46.5 points.
No. 19 Arizona State will begin their 2014 season with a home game against Weber State as they look to bounce back from a bowl loss to Texas Tech.
The Sun Devils are favored by a whopping 46.5 points over the Wildcats. The Wildcats finished 2-10 last season, and the Sun Devils finished 10-4.
The Sun Devils’ season looked promising when they were 10-2, but they were defeated easily in the Pac-12 Championship Game by Stanford before being upset by Texas Tech.
Quarterback Taylor Kelly will return for his senior season with the Sun Devils after throwing for 3,510 yards and 28 touchdowns last season. He also added 473 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
D.J. Foster will replace Marion Grice at running back, but Jaelen Strong will return after leading the Sun Devils in receiving with 1,094 yards and seven touchdowns.
Although Arizona State will keep the core of its offense intact, they will look to improve on defense with only four starters returning. Despite losing important players such as defensive tackle Will Sutton and outside linebacker Carl Bradford, this may be a blessing in disguise though since they allowed 26.6 points per game, which tied for 63rd in the nation.
