All eyes will be on Uruguay this evening as Oscar Tabarez sends his team onto the field in the Maracana without star man Luis Suarez, banned after appearing to bite Giorgio Chiellini against Italy.
The Uruguayans are a noticeably poorer side without Suarez, with Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani having struggled to impress as a partnership during their side’s opening 3-1 defeat against Costa Rica.
This may hand the initiative to Jose Pekerman’s Colombian side, who breezed through Group C with a 100% record to their name and with one of the tournament’s deadliest attacking line-ups firing on something approaching all cylinders.
The Colombians boast James Rodriguez, a silky attacking midfielder who has scored in each of their three games so far and around whom their fast, slick attacking style revolves.
With experienced centre back Mario Yepes expected to recover from a knock, the big question for Pekerman comes in attack, where he must choose between regular first choice Teo Gutierrez and FC Porto’s Jackson Martinez, who bagged a brace when given the opportunity to start against Japan.
