2008/09 – Alvaro Arbeloa
A solid if unremarkable full-back who had the advantage of being equally capable on either flank and was eventually snapped up by Real Madrid.
At this time the team were much more secure at the back and the full-backs were required to be less potent in attack.
2013/14 – Glen Johnson
Gets forward at every available opportunity and when in attack fits well in Rodgers’ tactics, but at the back things are much more shaky.
The Reds’ downfall was the amount of goals they conceded in the title race and Johnson was often to blame for this.
Winner – Alvaro Arbeloa
