2008/09 – Fabio Aurelio
The Brazilian never really established himself at Anfield and during this time there was much experiment with the left-back slot – with Daniel Agger often filling in there.
With the ability to play at left midfield as well Aurelio was useful as a utility player, but never truly a first team regular.
20013/14 – Jon Flanagan
Despite the fact that the term started with both Jose Enrique and loanee Aly Cissokho ahead of the youngster in the pecking order, Flanagan has made left-back his own.
From being a much maligned figure this has been an impressive turnaround for the Englishman, who is even on standby for the 2014 World Cup now.
Winner – Jon Flanagan
