Fiorentina ace Riccardo Montolivo’s contract talks with the club have reportedly broken down.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the midfielder had a meeting with club President Andrea Della Valle on Friday to discuss his future.
Having reached the deadline for his answer, the Italy international asked for more time to consider his position, which reports claim have angered Della Valle.
Montolivo’s agent, Giovanni Branchini is set to fly to Florence to help the situation and re-start contract talks as soon as possible. However, reports in Italy claim this could be the final breakdown in negotiations.
With speculation linking Arsenal with a move in January, Montolivo will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season should contract talks fail to extend his current deal.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is rumoured to be a long term admirer of the former Fiorentina captain, and will be keeping a close eye on further developments.
