Could Super Mario be coming back to England?
In what would probably be the biggest surprise of the January transfer window, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli, reports the Daily Mail.
The former Manchester City forward has been back in Italy for less than 12 months after leaving the Etihad Stadium, but is said to have already had too many bust-ups at the San Siro.
The 23-year-old has obvious talent, but too often peppers that with moments of petulance and recklessness.
The eventual sale of Balotelli by City came after a string of incidents that eventually left the club exasperated with the Italian’s antics.
However, there is no doubting the attacker’s talent, having already netted five goals and provided two assists in eight games for Milan this season.
The Italy international’s three years with the Citizens may have been tarnished with falling outs and red cards, but 30 goals in 80 matches wasn’t a bad return.
Both the Gunners and the Reds are thinking of bolstering their attack this transfer window, with the north London side in particular lacking up-front.
Although Olivier Giroud has been in great form, the side’s backup consists of unreliable Nicklas Bendtner and France under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo.
Arsene Wenger has already tried to sign Luis Suarez from Anfield and may be moved to make another attempt in the New Year, with opposite number Brendan Rodgers perhaps viewing Balotelli as an instant replacement – the forward certainly causes as much controversy.
