The 21-year-old, who joined from Bayer Leverkuen in the summer, has hit a fine run of form in recent games, and looks to be displaying leadership skills and maturity beyond his years.
Despite being let go by Bayern Munich as a youngster, Can looks the real deal and may be an even better candidate for the role of skipper than current favourite Jordan Henderson.
Brendan Rodgers has shown he has faith in young players in the past, however, and could continue that philosophy when choosing who to give the armband to next season when Gerrard leaves for LA Galaxy.
