In typical English fashion rain played its part on day two of the 2013 County Championship Division Two season.
Essex v Gloucestershire
Chelmsford
Close of play: Gloucestershire 409-5dec, Essex 30-2.
Dan Housego and Hamish Marshall continued their good work from day one as Gloucestershire took control of the match and made the most of the batting points available.
After both reaching centuries the previous afternoon, Housego went on to achieve a career best 150 whilst Marshall was one short with 149.
Rain had delayed the start of play in Essex until 15.10 BST but the visitors still made it to 409 before declaring.
The home side didn’t start their innings brilliantly with bowler James Fuller dismissing Rob Quiney and Ben Foakes before close of play.
Day three will begin at 11.00 BST with Essex on 30-2.
Glamorgan v Northamptonshire
Cardiff
Close of play: Glamorgan 134, Northamptonshire 145-5.
Rain on day two ensured there was only 70 minutes of play before the match was suspended and eventually called off until today.
James Allenby took two more wickets for the Welsh side as Northants only put on 37 more runs before the weather temporarily ended Glamorgan’s fightback.
Day three should begin at Cardiff at 11.00 BST if the rain ceases.
