Hammers are not big enough to match striker’s lofty ambitions.
West Ham United appear to have failed in an audacious bid to bring highly-rated Sevilla front man Alvaro Negredo to Upton Park next season, according to reports in the Daily Star.
The prolific Spain international has been attracting the attentions of a whole host of clubs from across Europe of late after yet another eye-catching campaign in front of goal for his Spanish employers.
Negredo has found the target on 20 occasions in just 34 league appearances for Sevilla to date this season, while in total the striker has netted an impressive 26 goals in only 40 outings.
However, the 27-year-old is contracted to the Liga outfit until 30 June 2016 and so the Hammers would have needed to have broken the bank in order to lure the attacker to the East End of London for next season.
But those chances now appear to be over after the player reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign for Sam Allardyce this summer, claiming that West Ham were too small a club for a Spain international with 14 caps to his name.
