Australia captain Michael Clarke says he has no issues with either Cricket Australia or his teammates after he made his injury comeback in a Sydney grade match at the weekend.
Clarke made a successful return with Western Suburbs, notching up 51 against Gordon as he continues his comeback from a hamstring injury sustained in early December.
Reports in the Australian media suggest the Test captain has clashed with Cricket Australia over the deadline set for his comeback, while it’s also been reported that his teammates have turned their backs on him in favour of stand-in skipper Steve Smith.
Clarke denied the reports, saying it was “water of a duck’s back”.
“I’m not going to get into it. It seems like some people in particular are going to write what they’re going to write,” Clarke is quoted as saying by The Dominian Post.
“I’m really happy and comfortable with my relationship with Cricket Australia firstly, certainly with my team-mates so whatever.
“It’s water off a duck’s back for me. I’ve copped it my whole career so it’s another day, another newspaper sold. I don’t really care. My job is to get fit and healthy and I can’t wait to get back on the park and play for Australia again.”
Clarke will now play for a Cricket Australia XI against Bangladesh on Thursday.
It is hoped he will return in time for Australia’s second World Cup pool game – also against Bangladesh – on February 21.
