Cricket World Cup 2015: Australia coach Darren Lehmann slams spin-king Shane Warne for Michael Clarke comments
Australia coach Darren Lehmann has confirmed skipper Michael Clarke will play against Bangladesh in Saturday’s Pool A clash at the Gabba.
Clarke missed Australia’s opening win over England after just having returned from a hamstring injury suffered during the Test series against India.
The Bangladesh clash was Clarke’s deadline to prove his fitness and it now seems the 33-year-old will push George Bailey out of the squad for the match in Brisbane.
“Yeah, he’s playing mate,” Lehmann is quoted as saying by AAP.
“We had a good conversation (with selectors) last week and thought it was in the team’s best interests to not play against England and give me another week,” he said.
“At this stage I think the selectors are very happy.”
However with heavy showers predicted for the weekend, it is likely however that Clarke’s return may be delayed until Australia’s clash with New Zealand on February 28.
