According to Fairfax Media, Cummins suffered a slight side strain during Australia’s loss to New Zealand on Saturday after he fell heavily whlist bowling.
It’s the latest in a long line of issues for Cummins, who has struggled with injury in his young career.
According to the report, Cummins has complained of soreness since the Australian squad arrived in Perth for the upcoming clash with tournament minnows Afghanistan on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old was on the receiving end of Kane Williamson’s match-winning six on Saturday and would dearly love a reprieve.
If Cummins is to miss the game however, Josh Hazlewood looks the likely replacement.
