England all-rounder Moeen Ali says England will prove themselves to be a major threat at the World Cup if his side can defeat Sri Lanka on Sunday.
Ali starred in England’s 119-run win over Scotland on Monday and is confident the struggling team can book a place in the Super Eight by winning its next two games against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
“We are going out to win the next two,” Ali is quoted as saying by AAP.
“That’s a very important game [Sri Lanka], if we can win that it will give the team a lot more confidence of being a very good one-day side and a major side in the competition.”
Sunday’s clash with Sri Lanka provides England the opportunity to get back-to-back wins and banish the demons of its embarrassing loss to New Zealand at the same venue last Friday.
Sri Lanka is a totally different proposition to Scotland however, with England going down to Sri Lankans 5-2 in a pre-World Cup ODI series.
