According to AAP, Smith was struck on the left hand and was clearly in bother after he ended his session and iced the injured area.
Although Smith went back into the nets to test the injury, his availability for the Pool A clash at the WACA is believed to be in doubt.
Australia quick Pat Cummins is also set to miss Wednesday’s game after suffering a side strain during his side’s loss to New Zealand on Saturday.
All-rounder James Faulkner is expected to return to the side after recovering from his own side strain injury and may now slot straight in for Smith.
Australia face Afghanistan on Wednesday at 6.30am (GMT).
