Matt Prior says under-fire England captain Eoin Morgan will silence critics during the Cricket World Cup.
Morgan has endured a barren run with the bat, making just two runs in his past five innings – including four ducks.
The 28-year-old’s captaincy has come under question since taking over from Alastair Cook in November, but Prior has backed Morgan’s ability and said the captaincy will bring out the best in him.
“Look, the guy’s a human. You can’t perform day in, day out. You go through peaks and troughs, in sport as you do in any other walk of life,” Prior is quoted as saying by Sportal.
“But he is a quality performer, a quality character, with the right temperament, not easily flustered. He’ll stick to his guns and back his ability, as he should do. I don’t doubt he will put in a big performance for the team soon.”
Prior said people had short memories in regards to Morgan.
“It was probably only weeks ago, rather than months ago, that everyone was saying the captaincy brings the best out of him.”
The under-pressure Morgan will lead England in its crunch-match against New Zealand on Friday at 1am (GMT).
