Portuguese legend is tight-lipped on Gareth Bale speculation…
Real Madrid’s 28-year-old attacker has refused to comment on speculation that Gareth Bale could be joining him in Spain from Tottenham, reports The Telegraph.
In 2009, Real Madrid made Cristiano Ronaldo the world’s most expensive player, paying Manchester United £80m for his signature. He has been fantastic ever since, scoring 201 goals in 199 appearances.
It appears though, that Madrid could break his world transfer record with the signing of Tottenham’s Gareth Bale for an astronomical fee close to £100m, although Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has again reiterated that the player is not for sale.
Ronaldo gave nothing away when questioned on the transfer saga of the summer.
“I’m not qualified to talk about new players, but I’m very happy with the players the team already has,” said the Portuguese flyer.
“In terms of the transfer fee, you should speak to the coach [Carlo Ancelotti] and president [Florentino Pérez] about that. I have my opinion, but I’m not going to reveal it in front of the cameras.”
The comments indicate that Ronaldo, like many others, perhaps feel that the potential Bale fee is hugely inflated. When Madrid decided to spend that money on Ronaldo, the player had already won a Ballon D’or, and had multiple Premier League and Champions League titles with Manchester United. Despite Bale’s hugely impressive season, he has yet to win a significant trophy, and failed to propel his Spurs team into the Champions League for the coming season.
If he does join though, Real Madrid could line up next season looking like this:
