New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said that negative criticism affected the play of Hakeem Nicks, who is now with the Indianapolis Colts.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is looking to get his career back on track after having two forgettable seasons in his two final years with the New York Giants.
He failed to catch a touchdown pass in 2013, and Giants receiver Victor Cruz believes that constant criticism of Nicks was detrimental to his play. “I mean, anytime people say things like that and try to discuss your character, I think it takes a toll on anyone. I think it did for him, and I think it’s something where he wants to prove people wrong,” Cruz told ESPN.
Nicks is looking to prove himself worthy of a long-term contract after signing a one-year deal with the Colts, but he is currently buried under Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton on the depth chart.
The former Giant has also been questioned on his conditioning habits by offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton, but he has insisted he is in the best shape of his life.
