Cronulla are set to table a record-breaking offer to Manly Sea Eagles star Daly Cherry-Evans, according to reports.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Sharks are in the process of piecing together a seven-figure a year deal that will make Cherry-Evans the highest paid NRL player ever.
Cronulla are believed to have plenty of room left in the salary cap following the departure of Todd Carney, while the Broncos are paying part of new recruit Ben Barba’s wages as part of the agreement between the two clubs.
Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn has stated publicly that he wants to secure Cherry-Evans and halves partner Kieran Foran to long-term deals before the end of the year, with both players coming out of contract at the end of the 2015 season.
Both players are expected to return to pre-season training with Manly around Christmas time after being handed an extended break following their efforts at the Four Nations.
