3. William Gallas

After four seasons at Arsenal, Gallas was released in summer 2010 and controversially joined Harry Redknapp’s Spurs on a free transfer. The Frenchman was a fine performer for the Gunners and captained the side but his spell was punctuated with controversy, after an on-pitch meltdown in a 2-2 draw with Birmingham in 2008 saw him eventually stripped of the captaincy.

The veteran was close to leaving Spurs this summer but his experience is well valued by boss Andre Villas-Boas and he has been a regular at the back for the Lilywhites this term.
