Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere looks set to miss the Gunners’ next fixture against Chelsea.
Arsenal are set to find out today whether Jack Wilshere will be sanctioned for his gesture against Manchester City.
The Gunners midfielder was seen to signal towards the home crowd at the Etihad Stadium with his middle finger, and an FA decision over whether he will receive disciplinary consequences for the action is due.
Given that Liverpool forward Luis Suarez received a one match ban in 2011 for performing the same gesture towards Fulham fans, Wilshere and Arsenal can expect similar punishment.
The FA can decide to raise a case against Wilshere whether referee Martin Atkinson includes it in his match report or not, meaning that given the pictorial evidence already in circulation, the Gunners midfielder’s prospects of evading suspension appear slim.
Arsenal’s next game is against Chelsea on December 23rd. If action is taken against Jack Wilshere prior to then, and he does not appeal against the process, it is likely that he will miss the fixture against Jose Mourinho’s Blues side.
