Liverpool’s chances of winning their first league title since 1990 appear to have gone after a 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
It all seemed so different after an hour as the Reds held a three goal lead thanks to strikes from Joe Allen, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.
Yet Palace came back into it at Selhurst Park and after Damien Delaney saw a deflected shot find the net, substitute Dwight Gayle completed the comeback with a brace.
Although the Merseysiders are back to the top of the table by a single point, second-placed Manchester City have a game in hand at home to Aston Villa on Wednesday.
Things started well for Brendan Rodgers’ side as after having the majority of the possession in the first half they scored a header from an unlikely source, with Allen netting his first league goal for the club.
After the break the visitors appeared to grow in confidence and Raheem Sterling and the ‘SAS’ duo were causing the Eagles back line all sorts of problems.
Sturridge saw a deflected shot come off Delaney and beat Julian Speroni, before Suarez made it thre shortly after with his 31st league goals of the season.
Suddenly the home team burst into life though and Yannick Bolasie was dangerous down the left flank as Glen Johnson struggled to cope.
Yet it was Gayle who was the man of the moment, as after Delaney’s somewhat fortunate strike the forward netted twice to leave Suarez in tears and Liverpool’s title chances in tatters.
