The Seattle Seahawks released offensive tackle Eric Winston, paving the way for second-round rookie Justin Britt to start right away.
Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Eric Winston has been released by after receiving a tryout following his departure from the Arizona Cardinals.
Winston was the Cardinals’ starting right tackle and had himself a respectable season, so the Seahawks’ decision to release him comes as somewhat of a surprise. This shows that they have all the confidence in rookie Justin Britt though.
Britt was drafted in the second round by the Seahawks, and he has been tabbed as their future starting right tackle. His preseason performances have left a lot to be desired though.
The second-round pick tore his ACL in 2012 at Missouri, but he bounced back in 2013 to help guide Missouri to an SEC East championship.
He will be counted on to produce right away since last year’s starting right tackle, Breno Giacomini, left for free agency and signed with the New York Jets.
The Seahawks have a proven track record in proving draft critics wrong, so they will look to help Britt give the offensive line a solid tackle duo for years to come with Russell Okung still manning the left side.
