NASCAR.com announced that Patrick, the first woman to lead laps at the Indianapolis 500, win an IndyCar race and win the pole for the Daytona 500, will become the first woman in professional racing history to announce from the booth.
After a series of average finishes over the past few years – 27th in 2013 and 28th in 2014 – Patrick is trying her hand at yet another boundary breaking endeavor in professional racing.
The timing is rather interesting as Patrick is just one day removed from a heated confrontation with Denny Hamlin at her Daytona 500 qualifying race after Hemlin caused her to crash.
It will be interesting to see if this become part of a trend for Patrick, who may be on the outs with her primary sponsor, GoDaddy.com. Reuters reported that Patrick has not yet received a new contract with the company and was not featured in the company’s Super Bowl commercial this past February.
