Ings is out of contract in the summer and is on the shortlist of a number of high profile clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham but the Daily Star report that he is more likely to join Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
The news will come as a boost to United who would then be able to back out of a £46 million deal to bring Radamel Falcao to the club on a permanent basis.
The reports stats that the Red Devils have also been scouting the Clarets striker more closely in recent weeks but also have Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their sights.
However the Gabon star would require a fee of around £30m to snatch away from the Bundesliga whilst a fee for Ings would see Burnley reap between £3m and £5m.
