Arsenal have been dealt a serious blow with the news that striker Danny Welbeck has had to undergo surgery.
The England international has not played for the Gunners since April due to a problem with his left ankle.
Welbeck has been in rehab since April and he had been hoping to avoid surgery.
However, after increasing his workload in training, the injury to Welbeck’s cartilage did not respond well.
As as result, the decision was made last week for him to undergo surgery, which was conducted by a knee specialist.

According to Arsenal.com, Welbeck will now be out for “a period of months”.
He will almost certainly miss Arsenal’s Premier League games against Chelsea and Manchester United.
