New York Jets cornerback is unclear about his future as trade seems likely. The NFL’s best cornerback may just be about to hit the trade market, and it’s something that makes Darrelle Revis angry.
When he was asked about his initial reaction to the rumours, upset is an understatement to his feelings.
“I was speechless; I tweeted it out I was speechless. I was speechless because I didn’t get a phone call,” Revis told NFL Network’s Andrea Kremer.
“I know it’s a business — just call me; don’t have it lingering out there. I need answers and I’m not getting any. Just the fact that that was put out there instead of contacting your best player on the team. If that’s how you want to do business, then that’s fine.”
It is clear the the 27 year-old is unhappy with the way he found out about the potential trade, ad the shock seems to have hit him hard.
Being regarded as the best pure coverage cornerback in the league by almost every media outlet, it seems a strange decision for the Jets to deal him in a trade. If they did however, they could be in better shape going forward than they would be with him.
To acquire Revis, teams will need to give up a lot. Players, draft picks and potentially money could be needed to land the cornerback, and the Jets could use those picks to improve a roster that is seriously lacking in talent.
Whilst the four times pro bowler may not be happy with the rumours circulating his future, if the trade does happen, he would be moving to a team that is likely in a position to win now, rather than him spending another torrid season with the Jets.
The Jets need help now if they want to become a serious playoff contender. By trading their star player, it may be a case of one step back, but potentially 3 steps forward, if they use those players and future draft picks wisely.
