The 24-year-old had looked to be heading back to the Spanish capital at the end of the season, but the crowd’s reaction during last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal has now left him torn over what to do.
The Old Trafford faithful chanted ‘David de Gea, we want you to stay’ throughout the game, and his decision will not be helped by the fact the he picked up the Players’ Player of the Year and Fans’ Player of the Year awards last week.
De Gea has now consulted with representatives from the club as well as members of his family over what to do, though it is thought that he is still edging towards making the move to Real with a deal likely to be made next week.
United have tried desperately to convince him to stay by offering a new deal worth £250,000-per-week.
