Manchester United are set to grant David De Gea a move to Real Madrid before the start of the new season, with Louis van Gaal now prepared to sell.
According to Spanish paper La Razon, a fee of €35m (£24.6m) is said to have been agreed upon and the goalkeeper’s return to the Spanish capital could be completed this week.
The La Liga BBVA giants were hopeful of landing the Spaniard at a cut-price given his entering into the final year of his Old Trafford contract; however, the Red Devils appear to have stood firm on their No.1’s value.
De Gea put in a disappointing performance in his first pre-season appearance against Paris Saint-Germain, and van Gaal has admitted that the stopper may be eyeing the exit.
“We have a situation that is not favourable for David De Gea but neither for us, or the club. Maybe he wants to go,” as quoted by BBC Sport.

Earlier this week, United announced the signing of Sergio Romero – who is expected to replace Victor Valdes.
If La Razon’s report proves correct, van Gaal will surely need to sign a second stopper this summer, and Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen could be his successor.
The Netherlands international has apparently told his Ajax team-mates that he is ready to leave the Amsterdam Arena.
