Louis van Gaal has admitted that he still does not know whether David de Gea will stay at Manchester United this summer.
But there is enough uncertainty over the goalkeeper’s future for Van Gaal to rule him out of United’s Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
De Gea only has one year left on his Old Trafford contract and has been heavily linked with a transfer to Real Madrid after an impressive development in recent seasons.

“He shall not play,” Van Gaal told a press conference this morning.
“We are living in a crazy football world. The transfer period is still going on and the competition is starting as well. You never know what will happen. You know we have problems with De Gea.
“I’m not participating in the process. I’m fighting against the transfer period. I know what the process is like and what it means for clubs, managers and players. It is not easy for David de Gea to manage his situation now.”
With De Gea not in contention and Victor Valdes and Anders Lindegaard also seemingly out of the picture, Van Gaal will choose between Sergio Romero and Sam Johnstone in between the posts.
Argentina international Romero only joined the club on a free transfer last week, while 22-year-old Johnstone has never previously featured for United’s first team in a competitive fixture.
