David de Gea is no longer expected to join Real Madrid and will soon sign a new contract at Manchester United, according to reports from Spain.
The goalkeeper seemed poised to complete his desired move to Los Blancos on Monday before the deal collapsed very late in the transfer window.
The paperwork for the part-exchange deal, worth a reported £29m with Keylor Navas moving to United, was not submitted to La Liga before Monday’s 11pm deadline in Spain.

The two clubs have blamed each other for the move breaking down, leaving De Gea in the awkward situation of having to return to Old Trafford this week.
The Spaniard has not featured in any of United’s opening six games of the season and it remains to be seen if Louis van Gaal will reintegrate him to the team.
Spanish journalist Josep Pedrerol claims that, not only will De Gea regain his number one spot from Sergio Romero, but that he will sign a new deal with the Red Devils.
The 24-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of this season and he had been expected to let it run down before joining Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
But De Gea is reportedly so disappointed by Real’s failure to conclude the deal that he is ready to commit himself to the Premier League giants, whom he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
