Australian player’s leadership hopes take a hit after outbursts.
Cricket Australia will investigate the circumstances surrounding an amazing war of words on Twitter between contracted star David Warner and journalists Malcolm Conn and Robert Craddock.
Warner hit back at an article by Craddock discussing the corrupt aspects of the Indian Premier League in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal involving three Rajahsthan Royals players.
Warner, who is currently contracted in the IPL by the Delhi Daredevils, called Craddock a “p***k” and Conn an “old fart”.
Both journalists have confirmed they have been contacted by Cricket Australia, who apologised on Warner’s behalf, but any further action against the fiery opening batsmen is yet to be seen.
In response to Warner’s tirade Craddock said he was all for the freedom of speech but said the bigger issue was the continuing corruption of the game by betting scandals.
“We keep hearing the scourge of match-fixing in Indian cricket is as great as it has been for many years,” Craddock said.
“It just makes you cringe to think playing right beside the three Indians arrested for spot fixing last week in the Rajasthan Royals side are a host of young players including Ashes-bound allrounder James Faulkner who is trying to carve out an international career as these sinister forces swirl around him.
“No player should be subjected to that.
“Cricket has never got to the bottom of the match-fixing scandals and sometimes we all wonder how hard they really try.”
Warner has previously held aspirations of leading his country one day, but severe public relations work will need to be completed after his latest outburst.
Conn in particular went toe-to-toe with Warner over his lack of form and the recent lopsided series loss against India.
@davidwarner31 cricket is a real job? Please. Most people pay to play. Million dollar cricketers milking the IPL are hardly the best judges.
