Liverpool have terminated the loan spell of Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo a year early.
The right-back joined the Reds last summer on a two-season loan from the then-La Liga champions, but he started only 10 Premier League games in the 2014-15 campaign.
And Liverpool beating Manchester United to the signing of England international defender Nathaniel Clyne earlier this month is only going to decrease Manquillo’s first-team chances.

A statement from Atletico Madrid read: “Javier Manquillo will not fulfil his second season on loan with Liverpool.
“The player and Atletico Madrid decided that he would go to Anfield for two seasons to enjoy the necessary minutes to continue growing football-wise.
“However, in this first season with the ‘Reds’, the defender has not had all the minutes he and our club consider necessary for that purpose of accumulating experience.”
Manquillo did not make a Premier League appearance for Liverpool in 2015 as Brendan Rodgers’s side finished sixth in the final table.
