The IPL strugglers battle it out in this encounter.
Kolkata Knight Riders need to win their match against Delhi Daredevils in the 2013 IPL today if they want any chance of defending their title.
Kolkata went into this tournament as one of the favourites after winning their maiden trophy in 2012 and they were certainly expected to make the play-offs.
Yet a poor run of form, which has seen them lose six of their nine matches so far, has meant KKR have tumbled to seventh in the table and are 10 points behind leaders Chennai Super Kings.
Likewise, Delhi have struggled all campaign and only been victorious in two games – although the Daredevils did beat Pune Warriors India in their last tie to take themselves off the foot of the table for the first time this year.
The Knight Riders’ problems have been somewhat bewildering as both captain Gautam Gambhir and Eoin Morgan have been in fine form with the bat.
All-rounder Sunil Narine has also looked good with the ball and the mystery spinner is joint second in the Purple Cap standings for most wickets with 15.
As for Delhi, Australian batsman David Warner has been thorough at the crease in 2013 and is the leading run-scorer for the franchise, whilst skipper Mahela Jayawardene has also chipped in with some healthy knocks.
With the ball Umesh Yadav is the only man to make any real impact for the home side with 11 wickets, which goes some way to explaining why the Daredevils have struggled so badly this season.
