Louis van Gaal seems to think David de Gea will return to Old Trafford despite everything that’s happened. We’ll see.
Despite deactivating star goalkeeper David de Gea for the club’s opener against Tottenham Hotspur amidst a contract dispute, Louis van Gaal believes his stopper can still play for Man United again.
According to Squawka, After overcoming a gritty Tottenham team with Sergio Romero as the starter in a 1-0 victory, LVG said the door is still open for David de Gea to return to the Man United starting lineup.
“Of course De Gea can play for Manchester United again,” Van Gaal said. “The position of goalkeeper is the position you need the highest concentration and focus during 90 minutes and when you are in the circumstances David De Gea is in it is difficult and we have seen that.
“We observed that in the preparation in the [pre-season] matches against Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. That was not the David De Gea — and he felt the same — of last year. But when the situation has been cleared after September 1 then we will look at it again.”
De Gea was the PFA Goalkeeper of the Year last season after finishing second in clean sheets as Man United finished 4th on the Premier League table.
Lately, however, de Gea and members of his inner circle have made it clear that he wants out of Man United and is eager to make the transfer move to Real Madrid.
