Hayne Detroit Lions: Former Eels star reportedly offered train-and-trial deal by the NFL club
Detroit Lions coach Jim Caldwell has responded to speculation linking to franchise to former Parramatta Eels star Jarryd Hayne, saying he’d heard of the rugby league star but was unaware of any deal being made with the Australian.
The Lions were named as one of six NFL franchises interested in Hayne’s services, with reports suggesting the Lions had offered Hayne a train-and-trial deal.
However, Caldwell says he has no knowledge of any deals being made with the 26-year-old.
“I can’t tell you much about that. I know who he is, obviously, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to tell you,” Caldwell is quoted by The Detroit News.
“I have no knowledge of it in that regard.
“It could be a personnel issue, but I’m not aware of it.”
The names of the five other clubs reportedly interested in Hayne’s services are unconfirmed.
