He had previously played his entire career with the Baltimore Ravens, who faced a distraction as running back Ray Rice was caught on video punching his wife and released by the team.
Rice has been reinstated by the NFL, but he still has yet to find a team willing to take a chance on him. Ngata vouched for him and said that he would be a “great addition” to the Lions.
Although the Lions are in need of running back depth behind Joique Bell, this stance is sure to be a controversial one due to Rice’s soiled reputation.
Sports Illustrated NFL reported on Ngata campaigning for Rice on Twitter.
