West Londoners are now heading for the drop.
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has described Wigan Athletic’s last-minute equaliser at Loftus Road in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as “cruel”.
The West London club had been leading the Latics in their relegation six pointer heading into injury time, before visiting midfield player Shaun Maloney scored with a 94th-minute free kick to give Roberto Martinez’s men a crucial share of the spoils.
Redknapp’s side had also been forced to play 70 minutes of the game with only ten men after England international front man Bobby Zamora had been sent off following a high studs-up challenge on Wigan attacker Jordi Gomez.
“That was the cruellest last kick of the ball I have ever been involved in in football,” said a downbeat Redknapp after the match.
“I need people to lift me, I don’t know about the players. I need lifting, that is how I feel.”
