Richardson was acquired by the Colts for a first-round pick from the Cleveland Browns, and he failed to live up to lofty expectations that came with him being selected third overall in the 2012 draft.
He averaged 3.1 yards per carry in his time with the Colts and was barely able to eclipse 500 rushing yards in the 2014 season before being benched in favor of undrafted rookie Dan Herron.
The Colts sealed Richardson’s fate by signing Frank Gore to a three-year contract, and they now have a quality backup in Herron.
Their offense was also upgraded with the signing of wide receiver Andre Johnson while the defense bolstered their pass rush with the signing of outside linebacker Trent Cole.
