Disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong allegedly hit two parked cars while driving his vehicle after a party in late December, but pinned the blame on his girlfriend, according to reports.
Armstrong jumped into his SUV and hit two parked cars before fleeing from the scene, Associated Press reports.
Police say that Armstrong made an agreement with girlfriend Anna Hansen in which she would take the blame for the incident so that the former cyclist would avoid media attention.
Hansen later admitted to police that she had lied to protect Armstrong, and police later cited him for the hit-and-run.
“That was a joint decision,” Hansen is quoted as saying by the NY Daily News.
“You know we’ve had our family named smeared over every paper in the world in the last couple of years and honestly, I’ve got teenagers, I just wanted to protect my family because I thought, ‘Gosh, Anna Hansen hit some cars, it’s not going to show up in the papers, but Lance Armstrong his some cars, it’s going to be a national story.’”
According to the NY Daily News, Armstrong is scheduled to appear in court on March 17.
