HT: Dortmund 0-1 Liverpool (Origi, 36 mins)
Eyebrows were raised when Divock Origi was selected to start, leaving Daniel Sturridge on the bench.
Even more eyebrows shot up when Origi justified Jurgen Klopp’s faith in him by latching on to a James Milner flick-on to fire the Reds in front with a precious first-leg away goal in this Europa League quarter-final.
Liverpool have more than held their own so far against the tournament favourites.
In fact, it was very nearly 2-0 in the final seconds of the first half, but Origi was denied by Roman Weidenfeller as he tried to lob the giant goalkeeper, who had earlier clashed heads with Dejan Lovren as the Croatian defender spurned a fine chance at 0-0.
At the other end, Mamadou Sakho was twice Liverpool’s defensive hero as he made vital blocks.
Dortmund have been behind six times at half time this season. Of those games, they have only lost one.
